Brussels public transport updates: new tram line and extra buses

Brussels public transport operator STIB is introducing new changes to its network aimed at improving mobility in the capital. These changes will come into force on Monday, September 23.

These changes are of crucial importance not only for the residents of the capital, but also for visitors to the city seeking comfortable and quick access to various areas. With the launch of new routes and an increase in the number of vehicles, passengers will be able to plan their trips more easily, reduce travel time and have the opportunity to transfer between different modes of transport with minimal costs. It is expected that these changes will lead to a decrease in congestion on the main transport arteries of the city and will help make public transport more popular among residents.

Tram line No. 10

The launch of tram line 10 will be an important step in improving transport accessibility for residents of the northern districts of Brussels. The line will provide convenient connections with other transport routes, which will make it much easier to plan trips. This is especially important for students and workers who need to move around the city regularly, which should also help reduce traffic congestion.

Changes in tram routes:

  • Route: from Neder -Over- Heembeek to Churchill via the centre of Brussels.
  • Advantages: direct and fast communication, high capacity for residents and workers of the area, students and schoolchildren.
  • Bus lines: 47, 53, 56. Other tram lines: 4, 7, 18, 51. All metro lines: 1-5, 2-6. Trains: North and South railway stations.

The payment system for public transport in Brussels will not change. You can buy single tickets for one trip or a monthly, ready-made travel card. The first is convenient for tourists or guests of the Belgian capital. Monthly passes are used by city residents.

Tram line 35

Increasing the frequency of trams between these stops will improve accessibility for passengers during rush hour. This will make trips more comfortable and faster, and will also reduce waiting times at stops. Increasing the capacity of the line will also gradually contribute to an overall improvement in traffic congestion in Brussels.

Advantages of the new tram schedule 35:

  • Merging with line. Line 3 will merge with line 10 between Hembeck and Churchill.
  • The new tram route 35 will link Esplanade and Bienfaiteurs / Weldoeners .
  • Increase in tram frequency. Doubling the frequency on the section between Dockx Bruxsel and Meiser (from 10 to 20 trams per hour).

One of the advantages of trams as public transport in Brussels is the speed of movement around the city. They do not depend on traffic jams, so this is the best way to quickly get to the desired place, especially in the city center.

Bus routes 47, 56 and 57

The bus changes are aimed at strengthening the connection between industrial areas and residential areas, which should facilitate the convenience of travel for workers. The new route will also provide better connections between key facilities needed for daily travel.

What’s new in Brussels public transport, bus routes:

  • Merging of routes. Buses 47 and 57 are being merged into a new line 47, linking Heembeek and Vilvoorde .
